Gavel of Justice

In the ancient days of the Vast Kingdom, Bashen–the Herald of Justice–endowed worthy men and women with the power to judge the people and maintain peace and order. The symbol of their authority was held in their mighty hammers that they wielded to defend the people.

Today, the judges of the land sit comfortably behind their benches and carry small emblems that vaguely resemble the old weapons of government. It is laughable to imagine how one of these crotchety old judges might act when asked to uphold the law face to face with the marauding bandits of the early kingdom. s.

Gavel of the Justice Apprentice (Variant)

A more common relic found in smaller settlements across the kingdom are Gavels of the Justice Apprentice. These hammers deputized the local leadership of small communities to uphold the laws of the Vast Kingdom. The bearers of these weapons possessed the same authority as a full master but were withheld from making certain judgments without approval. It was a mark of pride to have a Justice Apprentice in the family—even more so when they were elevated to a master and given a true Gavel.
